A new Family Code in Slovenia

A new Family Code in Slovenia

Today, a new Family Code became applicable in Slovenia; thus, concluding a reform in the field of family law. Among other new solutions, the Code also brings changes to matrimonial property regimes. It allows spouses to regulate their property relations by a matrimonial property agreement. Spouses are free to determine their property regime, which differs from statutory property regime. In case spouses do not conclude a matrimonial property agreement, a slightly changed statutory matrimonial property regime applies. The reform of substantial rules is supplemented by the new Non-Contentious Civil Procedure Act, which enters into force today.
